About me
Emily Heger serves as the Senior Pro Bono Coordinator at Akin where she helps facilitate the global pro bono practice with a focus of managing the firm’s humanitarian immigration docket. Emily was a 2019 Equal Justice Works Fellow co-sponsored by AT&T and Akin and hosted at Human Rights Initiative of North Texas. Her fellowship project focused on advancing asylum law for those fleeing gender-based persecution. Prior to her legal career, Emily served as the Chief Operating Officer of Akola Project, an international development non-profit that created economic opportunities for hundreds of women in East Africa and Dallas, Texas. She's an adjunct professor at Texas A&M School of Law and a graduate of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
