About me
Lisa Chavez is a Program Director at the State Bar of California, Office of Research and Statistics, where she leads teams in conducting groundbreaking research that supports the State Bar’s mission and strategic plan. As a strategic leader with extensive experience in quantitative research and project management across academic, nonprofit, and public sectors, Lisa is passionate about driving meaningful change on pressing social issues. During her tenure at Berkeley Law, Lisa designed and led data-driven research projects on critical civil rights issues, including school integration, accountability for English Language Learners, and pioneering research on immigration enforcement—work that was featured in the New York Times. In addition to her research, she taught upper-level undergraduate courses in the UC Berkeley Ethnic Studies department. Lisa also contributed her expertise as a Data and Tools Advisory Board Member for California’s Cradle-to-Career System, a statewide data initiative that helps students achieve their goals by providing insights into education and workforce outcomes. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, as well as a Master of Arts in Sociology and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.
